Hong Kong 2009

A classical view of Hong Kong from Victoria Peak:

HK View from Victoria Peak

I managed to get a picture of my room before throwing all my stuff around. It was taken with the 16mm fisheye and “defished” with Fisheye Hemi.

Good bye New York

I am now back to Paris after more than four years in NYC. These two last NY pictures were taken from the 52nd floor rooftop in Upper West Side just the day before we left NY.

I continue with another three shots from Central Park; the first two are views on Central Park South from the pond.

Morning glory

After going every other day to the park for a year, one ends up with the “perfect” sunrise light over the Central Park West buildings and the clouds before the storm.

Rockefeller Center Christmas Decorations

Rockefeller Center (just near my workplace) is a major tourist attraction especially during holidays when hordes of people wander in the area. The holiday decorations never change here: the twelve herald angels (since 1954) and the 70-80 feet tall Norwegian spruce.

After 4 years I have finally noticed the frieze above the main entrance of the GE Building done by Lee Lawrie. Half a block west we can see the huge Christmas tree decorations on 6th Avenue.

Elevators & reflections

The first picture shows the elevator shaft in the Marriott Marquis hotel in Times Square. It takes less than 30 seconds for the 49 floors (see also here a picture while in the elevators taken last year).

Gotham city

This is the last post in 2007:

  • reflections of midtown skyline (Verizon Tower on the left, Empire State on the right) on the HBO building
  • a black & white view of newly built Bank of America Tower (left), HBO building (middle) and Grace Building (right)

New York rising

These workers are building a new floor every 2-3 days. Now they are more than 20 floors above ground.

Chrysler Building and the New Yorker

The Chrysler Building was designed by architect Van Allen on the orders of the automobile magnate Walter Chrysler. When it opened (in 1930), it was the tallest building in New York, but it was detronated just one year later by the Empire State Building. The smokestacks in the background are part of the Ravenswood power plant. They remind me of the movie Conspiracy Theory with Mel Gibson.
The New Yorker Hotel was inaugurated in the same year. This photo was taken from the top of the Empire State Building which casts its shadow over the city.
